Documentation related to Drug Free Sport for 2017 released. A change to asthma medication allowable dosage.
Notice to Clubs and Players about these changes and contact information.
The World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) 2017 Prohibited List (the List), will come into effect on 1 January, 2017 and it’s important you, your staff, your athletes and their support personnel are aware of the changes which have been made. The List, which is updated at least annually, identifies substances and methods which athletes are prohibited from using.
The two key modifications to the 2017 Prohibited List are:
Salbutamol Inhalers (marketed as Ventolin)
Commonly used to treat asthma. The limitations on use of inhaled salbutamol have been amended. Athletes are allowed a maximum of 1600 micrograms over 24 hours, but are not to exceed 800 micrograms every 12 hours.
Salmeterol (Severent)
Commonly used to treat asthma. Under the 2017 List, the maximum allowable dosage of salmeterol has been defined for the first time as “200 micrograms over 24 hours”. This is consistent with manufacturers’ recommendations.
Contact DFSNZ to determine if your athlete needs to apply for a TUE.
